Girl Scout Discovery Petition News Part I
Bradford Ladner LLP represents the Petitioner filing a Girl Scout Discovery Petition seeking non-profit corporate documents from the Girl Scouts of North Central Alabama (GSNCA). The Girl Scout Discovery Petition was initially filed in October of 2012 requesting the GSNCA provide access to financial and corporate records of the organization to one of its members, Sarah Edwards. The documents were requested in response to the decision of the GSNCA Board of Directors to approve a three phase property plan which included the sale of four out of six of GSNCA’s girl scout camps, and the potential sale of the remaining two camps after a “feasibility study” was complete.
The Girl Scout Discovery Petition expressed concerns that under Alabama Law required a vote of the members of the organization as opposed to the decision being made by the Board of Directors alone.
